Katheryn Wabegijig is a 44 year old Anishinaabe multidisciplinary artist, writer, and OCAD University graduate. Born in the small mining town of Elliot Lake, Ontario, she is now based back in her home community of Ketegaunseebee/Garden River First Nation with ancestry in Atikmakesheng Anishnawbek and Wikwemikong.

In 2003 she graduated from Cambrian College’s 4-year Fine Arts program and in May of 2016 achieved her BFA at OCAD University, majoring in Drawing and Painting with a Minor in Indigenous Visual Culture. Her Anishinaabe traditional knowledge, family dodems/clan animals, and culturally significant design and materials such as wampum shell, copper pennies and brick have informed her art practice which she employs to further explore her increasing cultural education.

Katheryn has been published in The Unpublished City, Volume 1, Dementia Connections, Inuit Art Quarterly and Arc Poetry Magazine. She has served as juror for the Ontario Arts Council Publishing Organizations Projects grant. Her artwork has been exhibited in Sudbury, Echo Bay, Hamilton, and Toronto. Her artwork has been acquired by Copper Cliff Museum, Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig The Centre of Excellence In Anishinaabe Education.

Throughout her career as an artist, she has had successful career paths in the custom picture framing industry and managerial roles. She held positions such as Quality Assurance Coordinator at Artistree of Canada, Indigenous Student Recruiter at OCAD University, and most recently as art Collections Manager and Sales at Canadian Arctic Producers where she managed an extensive Inuit graphic archive and further co-managed and marketed the largest Inuit art wholesale/retail collection in Canada.
